Getting the Most from your Face Masks

Getting the Most from your Face Masks

How to get the most from your face mask

If you are a regular reader, or follow me over on Instagram, you will have probably noticed that I’ve got a thing for face masks at the minute- and #BlackFriday only added to my stock pile! So I thought I’d share my top tips for maximising the effects of your favourite face masks- whatever they may be!

  1. Clean your hands (or whatever you’re using to apply the mask)
    •  You can’t expect it to work miracles on your skin if you’re using dirty tools to apply it!
  2. Prep your skin properly
    • Cleansing before a mask will help the mask penetrate deeper, especially if you use warm water to help open your pores! Also pay attention to whether it should be applied on dry/damp/wet skin- the instructions are there for a reason!
  3. Stick to the time!
    • There is a time frame to leave the mask on, again, for a reason! Leaving a sheet mask on too long can result in the sheet re-absorbing the serums from your skin, whilst leaving a generic mask on could have drying effects!
  4. Know when to throw your masks away
    • This is especially important for fresh face masks such as those from Lush, it may be tempting to keep them if you still have a lot of product left but there is an expiry printed date for a reason! Equally as important is throwing longer life masks away after the suggested amount of months- at best, the mask will be ineffective, but is it worth risking a reaction to expired products?
  5. Use them regularly!
    • Masks often seem like a quick fix, but with regular use they can have a lasting effect on the skin. I’m currently trying to do a face mask at least 2/3 times a week- admittedly this is made a lot easier by sheet masks as they require less effort but it’s no hardship to apply any mask and leave it for 15 minutes before bed!

So there you have it, do you have any more tips? I’d love to hear how you get the most from your masks- do you ever manage to use a full Lush face mask before it’s expiry? How often a week do you use a face mask & what’re your favourites?

Tara xo

    • Thank you so much Mila, that’s such a lovely thing to say!

I think I found this at the most relevant time possible. I’m literally seconds away from putting on a face mask. It’s so silly, as I never think to do this simple few steps. I will be sure to be more aware in future.
I’d love to do at least 1 or 2 face masks a week. But doing 1 a month or a far shot! x

    • Yeah I’ve still not managed to get round to doing them regularly but there’s always hope hey!

  • This is my first time hearing about sheet-mask reabsorbing the serum 😮 I’m so guilty when it comes to removing my mask on time, sometimes I’ll have them for an hour or so because I’m too absorbed in watching youtube or reading, lmao.

    • It’s so tempting to leave them on as they still feel wet but it’s more beneficial to pat the serum into your skin & let it sink in by itself after the recommended time!

Love the tips for applying face masks! The rose face masks look great, I would love for you to share a few of your top favorites 🙂

  • I am a massive fan of face masks also therefore I found this post really helpful! I would love to see a post on your favourite masks. I love lush masks as they always work wonders for my skin. My favourite is the Oatifix one 🙂

    • Ah I’ve never tried Oatifix but will add it to the list to pick up after Christmas! My current favourites are the Antipodes Aura mask & the Garnier Moisture Bomb sheet mask as I’m suffering with the cold weather but I’ll definitely do a post on it when I find my all time favourites!

Great tips lovely, I’m definitely going to have a look at the Lush mask in your photos – it looks so creamy and wonderful!

    • It works wonders for just calming the skin and re-balancing it, there’s no dramatic quick fix for problems but it’s one I reach for when I’m in need of some TLC

  • Awesome tips 🙂 I’m really into the Peter Thomas Roth masks at the moment, but I also REALLY love lush masks. They make for such a good evening pamper sesh!

    • Ah I’m dying to try the Peter Thomas Roth Masks (& the Glam Glow ones)- hoping to pick some up after Christmas if they’re discounted!

  • This is such a helpful post! I used to only use masks as a treat now and then, but since using LUSH masks I’m trying to make it more of a habit. I will definitely save these all for my next pamper night! x

    • With Lush masks you have to make it a habit or else it’ll have gone off before you’ve even used a quarter of the tub!
