H&M Make-up: First Impressions

H&M Make-up: First Impressions

Generally, I’m quite sceptical of beauty lines from high street clothing retailers,- although that could be down to pure ignorance- I tried a couple of the first launches from Topshop but aside from that I’ve largely tried to avoid buying into the hype- the haunting dreams of Claire’s Lip Smackers are enough to keep my temptation at bay. BUT, when I finally saw the H&M make-up in store I was surprised at how good the packaging looked! All sleek black, white and gold that wouldn’t be out of place amongst higher end brands. I just couldn’t resist picking up a few items to try out (and the 20% student discount made it seem less frivolous)

Review of H&M make-up

  • Gossamer Lip Stain; I’m a huge fan of liquid lipsticks but they can be SO drying I thought it would be nice to have an alternative for when I fancy something a little more subtle but don’t dare to go bare. I picked up ‘Storyteller‘- it looked like a perfect ‘your lips but better shade’ however once on the lips it is a lot brighter and more red. Aside from this, the lasting power is FAB- practically as long as those beloved liquid lipsticks!
  • Infinite Impact Eye Colour; I’m head over heels for warm tones at the minute, especially red-ish & cranberry shades-they’re a great alternative to a festive red lip- so when I saw the shade ‘Desirous’ it was a must have! (plus, it’s stopping me splurging on the Kylie Cosmetics Burgundy Palette for now!) It goes on a little more orangey/pink than I expected but I am IN LOVE with it! It blends out super easily and can also be built up for a more bold colour!
  • Colour Essence Eye Pencils; Another that I thought would be great for the Party season- golden smokey eyes are my go to, fail safe, look- so I picked up two bronzey/golden shades- ‘Come in Third‘ and ‘Raw Umber‘- I initially bought them for smudging under my eye but they are SO good for using on the waterline too and are less harsh than the black liner I’d usually opt for. As well as long lasting they’re also super creamy so can also be used as an all over lid colour if you’re in a stitch!
  • True Matte Finishing Powder; BOY does this mattify! I didn’t have high hopes for this initially but I thought a pressed powder would come in handy for on the go- I use a loose powder to set my make-up and they is never good in a clutch. This is definitely not restricted for on the go use now though, it makes my make-up last so well! Although it’s not quite replaced the loose powder, I reach straight for thiswhen I know I want to still have my make-up completely in place at the end of the day without too much shine! I though it was also worth noting that they have a great shade range, not quite enough to rival Esteé Lauder Double Wear’s but that would impressive!

Have you tried anything from H&M Beauty? I think I’ll be getting an eye shadow stick next and maybe also a nail polish- I’ve heard great things about them! I also picked up some of their face masks so I’m currently on with those, keep your eyes peeled for my thoughts!
