After all the excitement of Columbia Road on Sunday we worked up quite an appetite!
There were a host of pretty little cafe’s surrounding the stalls but we were in search of something a little more substantial (EGGS) and a little less busy (after battling the crowds between the flowers we needed some personal space!)
Less than a five minute walk away we stumbled upon Franze & Evans and what a find! I have to admit that at first we walked straight past it’s unassuming exterior but quickly double took because of the size of the wreath in the window- It was magnificent.
Now I’ve set the scene, lets talk about the main event! We got there just in time as once we were seated (as soon as we walked in!) people began to flood in & many were left waiting outside for a seat to become free on the sharing tables.
The menu was all sorts of exciting, imagine a brunch and it was (probably) on there and more.
Luckily for you- we all went for different meals (for once!)
I opted for the Tricolore, which promised sourdough toast, 2 poached eggs, spinach, smoked salmon, crispy prosciutto and hollandaise (sounds too good to be true right? it was!- although that didn’t make it a disappointment)
The ‘crispy prosciutto’ was not what I expected, and the hollandaise was served rather stingily but as a classic eggs, spinach, smoked salmon and v crispy toast (as sourdough tends to be!) it was still fab.
That French toast is giving me such bad cravings right now- please can the weekend hurry up so I can brunch again (jk I brunch any day of the week- no prejudice over here)
The eggs were perfectly poached (which I find is rare, there’s nothing worse than a hard yolk, or even worse a runny egg white) and we all enjoyed our drinks- the coffee was ice and strong & my iced coffee was sooo good despite it being winter.
I also need to give a special mention to their baked goods (you know how much I love a sweet treat!). I was so tempted to take one home for later but managed to restrain myself, this time!
If you aren’t hungry now I don’t know what’s wrong with you! Next time you’re in the vicinity you should definitely go, or even make a special trip. I think it might become my usual post Columbia Road haunt- all that shopping sure works up an appetite.
