Columbia Road

As I said recently, I try and take Sunday as a ‘me’ day as much as I can and one of my favourite places to go is Columbia Road Flower Market. There’s something about the bustling road that makes it such a fun place to go, and being alone make’s it way less stressful- you don’t have to worry about loosing anyone amongst the crowds. (I have to say, it is also a great day out with company which I in fact did have this time!) DSC_0461DSC_0508DSC_0498DSC_0497

I would even say it’s one of the best things about living in London- you can get bunches and bunches of flowers for pittance. The market has been going since 1869, with the sellers starting to set up at around 4am, and usually packing away around 3pm. I would say that the best time to go is around 1/2pm, the stall owners often begin to slash their already rock bottom prices. If you’re not a fan of large crowds you can head down first thing (8am) while the rest of us are catching some shuteye. DSC_0526DSC_0537DSC_0502 DSC_0513

I have always loved flowers, I think they immediately ‘make a house feel like a home’, as the saying goes. In fact one of my only request’s to my mum when I started uni was that she sent me flowers regularly (she doesn’t! one can only wish)DSC_0484 DSC_0487 DSC_0515 DSC_0489DSC_0518 DSC_0516DSC_0530

Even if you don’t fancy buying any flowers, it’s a bloomin’ (get it?) great place to people watch, and there are plenty of adorable coffee shops, cute little restaurants and fabulous home ware stores lining the streets around the pop-up flower stalls.

Obviously I couldn’t walk away empty handed! Three succulents (for £10! how could I resist) made their way home with me! I’m now wondering how I’m going to keep them alive while I go home for Christmas! DSC_0477

Now I’m on a mission to find some new plant pots for my succulents, let me know if you’ve seen any! I may even make my own over the holidays!
